The Old Caleys
Welcome to this new page on our website!
We hope you will enjoy and use this page, features of which will include:
- Photos. We plan to publish a few photos each month. If you can identify any of the details in the photo, the occasion and/or people in it please let us know and we will include the information.
- Contacts. We aren’t trying to rival Friends Reunited but we often get enquiries from Old Caleys asking if we can put them in touch with other former pupils. We would like to hear from you provided you are willing to have your details published on the website (name, dates of attendance at the Caley and email address).
- News Items: We all like to know what’s happening so if you have news that might be of interest to other old Caleys we will consider publishing it.
It runs in the family
Former Caley Gold Medal Piper Keith Bowes (attended the Caley from 1966 to 1980) and his son Keith Jnr gathered a large crowd of onlookers when they piped to welcome guests to the Caley reception at the City Chambers Edinburgh on 12 October this year. Keith Jnr, a current Caley Scholar, is attending the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama - and, yes, his main instrument is the pipes!
Have you ever thought of becoming a Caley Guardian?
Did you ever dream of taking over the school? Well, we won't quite allow that but you could become a member of the Court of Guardians of the Royal Caledonian Schools Trust. We already have two Old Caley Guardians.
All you have to do is make donations totalling £200 which can be in a single amount or several amounts over a period of time; for instance a monthly Gift Aid payment of at least £5 for three years. As well as getting invitations to Caley events it is the Guardians who elect the twelve Directors of the Trust.
For more information please contact John Horsfield on admin@rcst.org.uk or call him on 01923 215350.
Your donations will help us continue our work. Many of you may be able to identify with the children we are helping through our Education Project. For further information on this, see our Education Project page.
Can we help you?
Since becoming an educational trust we have helped hundreds of young - and not so young - Scots with their education. This includes about a dozen Old Caleys or their children. Have a look at our Who we help page. Our grants committee are particularly keen on helping Old Caleys and a number have, with our help, completed their education or taken up a second chance.
